Action & Event Item Requirements
The following requirements are for suggesting items for SVCR Action & Event emails. Send suggestions to svcr-ask@googlegroups.com. Members can always send relevant posts directly to the SVCR Discussion List, silicon-valley-courageous-resistance@googlegroups.com
SVCR Actions
Advocating for a boycott requires an organization responsible for publicizing it, informing the boycotted companies, and announcing when the boycott ends. A national boycott requires a national organization responsible for those things.
Example: Indivisible called for a boycott of Disney and its streaming services (Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+) in September 2025 due to Disney’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel, capitulation to government pressure and a violation of free speech.
Out of Scope
Non-U.S. items (“Don't attack another country” is a U.S. item).
Petitions.
Advocating for legislation in other states.
SVCR Events
We need at least 24 hours advance notification. We're not set up for rapid forwarding.
Exceptions might include Rapid Response Network’s notifications, e.g. Emergency ICE Out for Good protests, but we recommend you send such emails directly to the SVCR Discussion List.
Complete event information required:
What: 1-2 sentences describing the event.
Why: purpose of the event.
When: date and time.
Where: physical location or virtual session info.
Who: is organizing the event.
A web page URL (e.g. to Mobilize.us) that has all these details, gets updated, and provides evidence of some measure of origin, time investment, and authentication. No “telephone tag” emails.
No social media posts unless backed up by a reliable, legitimate source.
Free events only.
(Listing on Mobilize.us enables many more people to find the event, moderation for relevant events, and a way for people to subscribe for updates. A web page also enables the Events email to give just enough info for people to decide if they’re interested, then click through for details.)
